JONATHAN CHERRY: What did you have for breakfast this morning?
ANGELA DATRE: Potatoes and eggs with spinach and Daiya cheese.
JC: What was the last photography book you picked up?
AD: I just purchased Photography After Frank by Philip Gefter.
JC: Are there any emerging artists influencing you at the moment?
AD: I’m always checking out the artists on sites like yours, Flak Photo and Mossless. There is so much work out there to be inspired by these days.
JC: What are some of your aspirations for 2011?
AD: I’d love to do more editorial photography. Walking into a store and being able to pick up a magazine with your work in it is one of the best feelings.
JC: What is your current project all about?
AD: One of my ongoing projects is photographing the fans of different music scenes. I’d like to get out and shoot fan portraits now and interview them about what draws them to that specific music genre. The combination of music and photography has always been a favorite of mine and I’d like to begin incorporating video as well.
JC: What do you like most about living and working in NY?
AD: I’ll always be obsessed with New York. When you live here your whole life you see how it really has everything - the city, great beaches, music venues, museums, and galleries. Work-wise, I see the most opportunities being here.
JC: Any words of wisdom to recent photography graduates?
AD: Never stop making work - even if you’re constantly being rejected and feel like you’re the only one who cares about what you’re doing
